If you are using language like, "Things will never get better," or "What's going to go wrong next," or "He'll never change," you are expecting the future to be the same as or worse than the present. And because your expectations influence the future, you are likely to inadvertently bring about more of the same or worse. If you believe things won't change, you are likely to keep doing what you have always done. If you believe things will get worse, you are likely to act in such a way as to unwittingly make them worse. You create a self-fulfilling prophecy.
