Other jobs may make demands on your skills, but if you are deficient you could do something about it. A lumberjack or a musician can improve with practice, try harder. But lumberjacks and musicians are not required to believe. You can’t change your beliefs as an act of will, in a way you could decide to improve your skills with chainsaw or keyboard. If the evidence before your eyes doesn’t support a belief, you cannot will yourself to believe it anyway.
This incidentally is one of arguments against a Pascal’s weightier.
