This book tries to analyze the maize and sorghum stem borers and their parasitoids interaction. Few researchers were used general linear Model analysis on the stem borers’ data. But, generalized linear model is employed and compared with the results generated by using general linear model. The results showed that the mean density of stem borers is not significantly different in years, between maize and sorghum cereal crops, in the levels of cropping systems, soil textures and existence & non existence of parasitoids. The stem borers and parasitoids interaction is exists but quite insignificant. However, there is more mean density in the main season than off season, significantly small in the stubble stage when compared to the other crop growth stages; maturity and vegetative stages. This implies that there is predator-prey interaction between stem borers and parasitoids. The significance of this finding can be used to devise mechanisms for controlling infestation of stem borers at vegetative and maturity stage of maize and sorghum than during its stubble stage. The parasitoids should be conserved during pesticides spray.

Worldwide losses in stored products, caused by insects, have been estimated to be between five and ten percent. Heavier losses occurring in the tropics may reach 30% and the net value of losses in storage in the United States has been placed at over $200 million annually. Such loss may reach up to 40%, in countries where modern storage technologies have not been introduced like Ethiopia. These and other factors mentioned in the introductory part of this book are evidences that indicate the relevance of both primary and secondary insect pests as pests of stored products. Therefore, there is a need to understand the basic aspects of storage insect pests (primary and secondary pests) which include: their type, description, life cycle, economic- importance (their status) and the like so as design safe management options to control them. This book, therefore, helps to understand some of the basic aspects of one of the secondary pests (Tribolium castaneum) which include: it description, life cycle, economic- importance (the status) host range and its control options.

Estimates of the worldwide post-harvest insect pests’ loss of foodstuffs (especially stored grains) may amount to 5-10% in the temperate zone and 20-30% in the tropical zone. Like wise, in Ethiopia loss of stored produce reached up to 20-30 %. Such damage may reach 10 to 40% in countries where modern storage technologies have not been introduced. Which groups of insects harboring the most economically important groups? Why Semiochemicals are preferable to conventional pesticides? What does it mean primary and secondary pest? Why Semio-chemicals are the promising alternative that could be used to control insect pests by behavioural manipulation: in the form of sex pheromone lures for monitoring, mass trapping, attracting and killing, mating disruption of insect pests? This work briefly responds all the mentioned questions and more.
