Ceramic Engineering and Science Proceedings Volume 34, Issue 7 – Nanostructured Materials and Nanotechnology VII A collection of 15 papers from The American Ceramic Society’s 37th International Conference on Advanced Ceramics and Composites, held in Daytona Beach, Florida, January 27-February 1, 2013. This issue includes papers presented in the 7th International Symposium on Nanostructured Materials and Nanotechnology (Symposium 7) and Nanomaterials for Sensing Applications symposia (Focused Session 3).

This issue features fourteen peer-reviewed papers originating from The 6th International Symposium on Nanostructured Materials and Nanotechnology. It includes Nanostructured coatings by cluster beam deposition; a new greener synthetic route to cadmium/lead selenide and telluride nanoparticles; and much more. Held in January 2012, during the 36th International Conference on Advanced Ceramics and Composites (ICACC), the symposium covered a broad range of issues, including synthesis, processing, modeling, and structure-property correlations in nanomaterials and nanocomposites, enabling scientists, engineers, and technologists from around the world to explore the latest developments in the field.

The manuscripts contained in this issue of Ceramic Engineering and Science Proceedings were selected from among the more than seventy presentations at the Armor Ceramics Symposium. The discussions are divided into three sections: Modeling and dynamic behavior, Transparent materials, and Opaque materials. Conducted during the 36th annual International Conference on Advanced Ceramics and Composites (ICACC), this event is one of the premier global conferences for the latest developments in the fabrication, characterization, and application of ceramic materials to meet the needs of the military, police, and other public defense, security, and protection organizations.

A collection of papers from The American Ceramic Society's 35th International Conference on Advanced Ceramics and Composites, held in Daytona Beach, Florida, January 23-28, 2011. This issue includes papers presented in the 5th International Symposium on Nanostructured Materials and Nanotechnology on topics such as Nanotubes, Nanorods, Nanowires and other One-dimensional Structures; Nanostructured Membranes, Thin Films, and Functional Coatings; Synthesis, Functionalization and Processing of Nanostructured Materials; and Advanced Applications.

This collection of 33 papers deals with mechanical behaviors associated with systems ranging from diamond reinforced silicon carbide to rare earth pyrosilicates. The Ninth International Symposium on Solid Oxide Fuel Cells: Materials, Science, and Technology was held in January 2012 as part of the 36th International Conference on Advanced Ceramics and Composites (ICACC). This symposium provided an international forum for scientists, engineers, and technologists from around the world to present and discuss the latest advances in solid oxide fuel cells. This issue features fourteen papers selected from the symposium, offering readers a broad panorama of the current status of solid oxide fuel cells technology, as well as emerging issues and future directions in the field.

The Armor Ceramics Symposium was held January 25-27, 2010 in Daytona Beach, FL as part of the 34th International Conference & Exposition on Advanced Ceramics and Composites. The 8th edition of this symposium consisted of over 65 oral and poster presentations on topics such as Impact, Penetration and Material Modeling, Boron Carbide, Silicon Carbide, Dynamic Material Behavior, Transparent Materials and NDE Applications. The symposium continues to foster discussion and collaboration between academic, government and industry personnel from around the globe.

This volume is a compilation of papers presented in the Mechanical Behavior and Performance of Ceramics & Composites symposium during the 34th International Conference & Exposition on Advanced Ceramics and Composites (ICACC) held January 24-29, 2010, in Daytona Beach, Florida. The Mechanical Behavior and Performance of Ceramics & Composites symposium was one of the largest symposia in terms of the number (&t;100) of presentations at the ICACC’10.
