"The past is a foreign country", said a famous writer, "they do things differently there". We know that this is true. Life was surely very different for our grandparents. And yet, as the proverb says, history repeats itself. Can these both be true? And, if they are, what is it that changes, and what remains the same?
This is the story of two women: a woman in the present, who is following in the steps of a woman in the past. They both come to India, and yet they both visit a different India, separated by fifty years. They both come from England, but it is a different England. One woman is married and dependent, the other is single and independent.
