Французский философ, журналист и политик Режис Дебре (род. 1940) говорит о ней с раздражением и досадой. Впрочем, «Венеция», вызывающая эти чувства, — скорее не сам город (прекрасная «выхолощенная окаменелость»), а та амальгама китча, которая сформировалась и всё больше уплотняется на границе его стихий (камень, вода, искусство) и нарциссического взгляда зрителя-актера, в которого превращается каждый ступивший на этот остров.

Режи Дебре - известный французский политический теоретик левой ориентации, соратник Че Гевары и советник президента Франсуа Миттерана. В 1990 г. он предложил термин "медиология" для обозначения нового учения о средствах передачи знания и традиций, т. е. культурных благ. В работе "Введение в медиологию" (2000), Дебре, опираясь на достижения современной французской философской и социально-научной мысли, предлагает широкий спектр новых понятий и подходов, призванных объяснить процессы коммуникации, происходящие в современном мире.

Автор книг «Революція в революції?» (1967), «Писар: зародження політичного» (1980), «Критика політичного розуму» (1981), «Життя і смерть образу» (1995), «Сакральний вогонь: функція релігійного» (2003) та багатьох інших. Книга «Інтелектуальна влада у Франції» (1979) присвячена вивченню французької інтеліґенції, її структурних ієрархій («вища» та «нижча» інтеліґенція), звичок та інституцій (університет, видавництво, мас-медія). Досліджується вплив інтелектуалів на суспільство, політику, культуру. Автор пропонує аналіз та критику «інтелектуальної влади» у Франції, застосовуючи оригінальний метод «медіології», що вивчає «парадокси і загадки культурних трансмісій» – технічних засобів передачі і розповсюдження знаків, практичних та інституційних опосередкувань, які уможливлюють життя смислів у культурі.
Книга буде цікава широкому колу фахівців та студентів гуманітарних наук.

« Ceci n’est pas un livre. Ce ne l’est devenu que parce qu’un insoumis a préféré s’assujettir à la règle plutôt qu’au siècle. Cette correspondance, j’en atteste, ne visait qu’au doux sommeil des tiroirs. L'image a toujours eu barre sur les hommes, mais l'oeil occidental a une histoire et chaque époque son inconscient optique. Notre regard fut magique avant d'être artistique. Il devient à présent économique. Il n'y a pas d'image en soi. Son statut et ses pouvoirs ont varié au gré des révolutions techniques et des croyances collectives. C'est la logique de cette évolution surprenante qu'on a voulu ici suivre à la trace, depuis les grottes ornées jusqu'à l'écran d'ordinateur. En réconciliant, par une démarche médiologique, les approches matérielle et spirituelle du monde de l'art, trop souvent exclusives. L'ère des images n'aura-t-elle été qu'une brève parenthèse entre le temps des "idoles" et celui du "visuel" où nous sommes entrés ? La mise au jour des codes invisibles du visible dissipe en tout cas quelques mythes tenaces, tels que "l'histoire de l'Art" ou "la Civilisation de l'image". En entrant dans la vidéosphère, avec le saut décisif du cinéma à la télévision et bientôt avec la révolution numérique, c'est sans doute aussi à "la société du spectacle" qu'il nous faut dire adieu.

The election in Chile of the Marxist leader of the Socialist Party, Salvador Allende, to the presidency in October 1970 inaugurated a political situation unique in Latin America and of world-wide significance. Allende’s Popular Unity coalition embraced Socialists and Communists and campaigned on an election programme of unprecedented radicalism – nothing less than the abolition of monopoly capitalism and imperialism in Chile. In this book R?gis Debray, recently released from his Bolivian gaol, questions President Allende about his strategy for socialism. These discussions range widely over the history of the workers’ movement in Chile, the strength of imperialism in Latin America, the experience of the first months of the Allende government, the role of the Chilean armed forces, Allende’s personal background and friendship with Che Guevara, the seizure of land by peasants since the Popular Unity victory, and the international outlook of the new Chile. In an introductory essay Debray furnishes an analysis of Chilean history and politics which situates Allende in the past and present of the country, and explores the dynamics of the class struggle now unfolding there.

Revolution in the Revolution? is a brilliant, pragmatic assessment of the situation in Latin America in the 1960s. First published in 1967, it became a controversial handbook for guerrilla warfare and revolution, read alongside Che’s own pamphlets, and remains fully as important as the writings of Guevara. Lucid and compelling, it spares no personage, no institution, and no concept, taking on not only Russian and Chinese strategies but Trotskyism as well. The year it was published, Debray was convicted of having been part of Guevara’s guerrilla group and sentenced to thirty years in prison. He was released in 1970, following an international campaign, which included appeals by Jean-Paul Sartre, Andr? Malraux, General Charles de Gaulle and Pope Paul VI.
