The main aim of our research was with the use of old lives of Russian fools for Christ sake to find their place in the Russian society of XV-XVI centuries. We detected that besides the gifts of prophecy, clairvoyance and wonderworking, which were typical for all the saints, the fools for Christ in their own «podvig» and admonitions to the society tried to express the necessity of predominance of inner Christianity which consists of the purification of the heart, constant mental contemplation of the Lord in prayer, self humiliation etc. over the formal Christianity which is in the Fast of body, in corporeal presence in church...
