Arkady and Boris Strugatsky's literary work has great diversity and can be divided into several periods. The period that I find of particular interest is the middle and late 1960s. Among several works of that period, the tales Monday Begins on Saturday and Tale of the Troika, form a sequel, the "Privalov cycle"; they also distinguish themselves from the other works by a dominant comic component. The comic can be found, in varying degrees, in most of the Strugatskys' works, but in the "Privalov cycle" it assumes the central and the most creative role as the authors use the comic effect, their basic device, to express their comic vision of the world.
