The general call that lexicography should address the potential needs of the dictionary users is amply reflected at least in the pedagogical dictionaries currently available in the market. But these dictionaries claim to be global in their response to this call. As a matter of fact, learners’ dictionaries are supposed to be compiled taking into consideration the language needs and problems of specific L1 users. It is in this way that the future generation of learners’ dictionaries will be able to satisfy their users at optimal level. The present study is case in point. The author has the unique privilege of having produced over twenty PhDs in English language & linguistics and twice as many successful M Phil scholars in the areas of linguistics and literature. He has taught literature and linguistics for more than thirty years at graduate and post-graduate levels in both public and private institutions of higher education in Pakistan.

Even though Telecom is relatively new and constantly evolving industry exhibiting abundance opportunities for growth, however the flourishing mobile markets in U.S and Europe were seen to be reaching a saturated state. This saturation created need for these mature telecom operators to seek business opportunity outside in the Asian, African, South American and potentially other emerging markets. Specifically the markets in Asia for example Thailand, Malaysia, India etc offer business attraction along with possibilities of enormous mobile penetration inspiring large number of outside mobile operators to move into these markets in recent past, Telenor(Norwegian Telecom Operator) being one of them. The purpose of this dissertation is to describe and analyze the Global Competitive Strategy of Telenor in terms of entry modes and management of control in Asian region. Based on the lessons learned, dissertation provides recommendations and guidelines to enter into prospective untapped emerging markets.

Crude extract and various fractions thereof of four medicinal plants of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provice were screened for antibacterial, antifungal, insecticidal, phytotoxicity, cytotoxicity and enzymes inhibition activities. Their anti-inflammatory activity was also tested using in vitro and in vivo models. All the screened plant extracts showed some degree of antibacterial activity. The chloroform fraction of Valeriana wallichii and Xanthium strumarium revealed significant antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Shigella flexneri, respectively. The n-hexane fraction of Valeriana wallichii showed strong antifungal activity against Microsporum canis. Chloroform fraction of Xanthium strumarium depicted 100% insecticidal activity against Callosobruchus analis. The ethylacetate and chloroform fractions of Duchesnea indica exhibited significant phytotoxicity against Lemna minor plant. The methanol extract of Valeriana wallichii and Achyranthes aspera, exhibited significant anti-inflammatory activity. These extracts can be a significant source for potential new lead compounds if further investigated

This study was carried out to evaluate a herbal formulation (HF) based on aqueous extracts of four plants, i.e., leaves of Azadirachta indica and Nicotiana tabacum, flowers of Calotropis procera and seeds of Trachyspermum ammi. The herbal extract exhibited (i) anti-tick effects in all the three bioassays, i.e., adult immersion test, larval packet test and in vivo tick reduction test, (ii) anthelmintic effects in all the three bioassays, i.e., egg hatch test, adult motility assay and fecal egg count reduction test, and (iii) anticoccidial effects in all the seven parameters, i.e., oocyst counts, oocyst score, lesion score, diarrhea, feed conversion ratio, survival percentage and weight gain. The herbal formulation is suitable for the resource-poor farmers as a broad spectrum antiparasitic. Incorporation of this herbal formulation in integrated parasite management practices will add to the sustainability and thus, income of the farmers. Studies on shelf life of the plant extract and its residual activity need to be carried out. The extract, however, may be recommended for use at farm level based on empirical evidence of its anti-parasitic activity

The MATERIALS EMPLOYED in the present research investigations were a field-grown crop of cotton and 4 different spray schedules. The TRIALS were, however, laid out at the Ayub Agricultural Research Institute, (AARI), Faisalabad in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) and there were, thus, five treatments including a control, having three repeats each. The SPRAY MATERIALS were prepared on V/V basis, and sprayed over to the crop at an interval of fortnight starting from August, 2010 by means of a Solo-Knapsack sprayer. The various observations on the population of cotton jassid during the trials were kept on being taken continuously throughout the test season. The data on the population of jassid, from each plot were recorded early in the morning one, two , three and seven days after the application of the insecticides, from five plants, selected at random. For this purpose, one leaf each from the upper portion, from the middle portion and from lower portion, were observed for jassid population, till five plants were completed. The population data were, however, finally presented in the form of mean values separately for each repeat of the various test treatments.

The book in hand analyzes the relations between media and politics in Pakistan since 1947. Media faced the toughest of the times in the sub-continent before partition and encountered difficult situations of new kind afterward. How did media react to the repressive actions of the rapidly changing governments and what were the reasons for taking actions against the media in the governments'' view? These and many other significant aspects have been studied in the book. Similarly, economy of the country and its affects on the functioning of media have also been studied with the presumption that an economically weak media is feebler to the actions of the government as compared to the stronger one. How did the media survive and what measures it took for its viability have also been examined. The society and its role in protecting the media as a social institution have also been focused. Some of the dramatic changes in the societal behaviour have been observed and studied in detail. What difficulties and problems the media faced, which hindered its institutional development process, are analyzed and summarised in various chapters of this book.

The addition of vitamin E at lower concentrations in broiler rations did not exhibited difference in performance however, better immunity and antioxidant activity was observed after addition of GPP up to 75mg/Kg of diets in present study. Therefore it is concluded that inclusion of GPP protect the birds form the infections, a good have no effect on tissues up to this level antioxidant and one of the best replacer of vitamin E.

The present research was conducted to investigate the impacts of oxytocin injection on lactating buffaloes. One group of buffaloes was injected with 30 IU of oxytocin at each milking, while second group was kept as control without any treatment. A significant higher level (P?0.01) of glucose, total cholesterol, LDL-C, triglycerides, total proteins and CRP was found in oxytocin injected lactating buffaloes. The serum total oxidant status and total antioxidant status were found to be significantly higher and lower respectively in the oxytocin injected lactating buffaloes. The overall mean serum PON1 and arylesterase concentration was significantly lower while malondialdehyde, total homocysteine and ceruloplasmin was increased significantly in the oxytocin injected lactating buffaloes. The liver enzymes like serum AST and ALT concentration did increase significantly in the oxytocin treated group. Serum T3, estradiol and progesterone was significantly (P?0.05) high in the oxytocin injected lactating buffaloes. Long use of oxytocin did effect the serum composition and animal health.

This dissertation presents intensive survey of formose reaction (FR). Based on survey, strategies are discussed regard to synthesis of edible sugars. The reaction is crucial to the question of origin of life and is potential for regenerative life support systems in space flights. The FR is complex due to chain distribution of synthesized sugars including other products. Full conversion of HCHO is responsible for product complexity, whereas complexity is significantly lower under partial conversion. Hence, partial conversion with adjusted reaction conditions may represent a potential tool for production of edible sugars. This strategy requires development of corresponding separation methods (membrane techniques, process chromatography etc.) including closed cycle systems. Analysis of formose products is still problematic. In this work, attempts were made to improve the analysis in HPLC. The work served to better the current understanding of the reaction itself. Investigations were also conducted following the strategy for production of C3 or C6 carbohydrate with increased selectivity. The results are indicative to follow the time dependent development of the compounds precisely.

Wheat is the most widely grown cereal grain crop and staple food of people in the world. Among many other factors of low yield in wheat, one of the most serious but less addressed causes is the presence of weeds. Weeds compete with crops for nutrients, light, space, moisture and cause reduction in wheat vigor, tillering, head size, kernel weight. Weeds lower the market value of the produce and hence bring economic losses to the growers. Chemical weed control is preferred over other weed control methods like manual weeding, mechanical weeding, intercropping, crop rotation and stale seed bed technique because it is quick, more effective and relatively cheaper. Grassy (narrow leaved) weeds like Phalaris minor, Avena fatua, Hordeum vulgare and Cyperus rotandus are the serious problem in wheat.This book describes identification of different grassy weeds present in wheat fields and most economical herbicides for controlling these weeds,especially against P. minor.

Global mango production is seriously hampered by several biotic diseases. The interaction of mango (Mangifera indica L.) and malformation has ever remained focus of study. Mango trees are gripped with the problem of malformation which adversely affects the orchard efficiency, viability and economic profitability. The problem seems to be intensified due to incongruous, unreasonable and perplexed citations about etiology. Despite application of diverse strategies, the problem defies complete solution. This book is an endeavour which acquaints the readers with latest and relevant research on malformation pathogen, its detection, infectivity, distribution, population structure, isolates polymorphism, transmission electron microscopy and disease management strategies particularly within the context of modern Plant Pathology and Biotechnology.
