Today in most African universities a tradition has emerged that uses a combination of course work assessment and end of semester examinations as a means of assessing student achievement. This stems partly from the fact that many of the techniques and procedure used in assessing student learning are rather technical and most teachers and lectures are often not knowledgeable about such matters. One goal of this book is to reduce the confusion about what educational assessment is and how it should be carried out. When one is appointed to lecture in the university his main pre-occupation is teaching the student. The issue is assessment of student'' performance is usually much farther away from the mind. It is only after teaching for two months that the lecturer is woken up to play a new role when he is asked to set a paper for university examinations. Teaching is a complex activity which includes proactive decision making, planning, designing and preparing teaching materials; interaction between the teacher and the learners; and protective redirection which includes evaluation, redesign and dissemination. Today, it is being said that our education system is not relevant to our needs and that its standards are falling. Parents complain of the deteriorating discipline of students. In the final analysis, a limitation suggests that there is need to overhaul educational programmes to suit our needs. By doing this, we think of corrective and remedial measures. If the policies were desirable, efforts can be made to maintain and even improve them. In essence, all these are indicators of measurement and evaluation. Measurement and Evaluation are important processes for improvement and avoiding further errors. Even God evaluated his creation each day and saw that it was good, proceeding the next day (Genesis 1: 1-31 and Koran 57:4). Archbishop Emeritus of Nairobi Kenya Raphael Ndingi Mwana A''Nzeki and the late Bishop Emeritus Kioko, were ordained the first Akamba Catholic priests in Kenya, January 1961. The number increased to four after Frs. Thaddeus Mutuku and Hilary Kailu were ordained in 1962 and 1966 respectively. In the light of this development, a separate Diocese of Mathakos, from the Archdioces of Nairobi was erected 29th May 1969. The new Bishop projected a spirit of confidence and gave the new Diocese a local face with the support of the co-worker missionary and local priests, religious men and women and the laity, he put the Diocese on a firm foundation. He opened Makueni Parish, split from the expansive Kaumoni Parish in 1970, and ordained his first priest, Msgr. Alfonse Mondiu in, 1971, (the sixth Local priest). The two events gathered the momentum for new parishes, ‘to bring the word of God closer to the people and building a Diocesan clergy to minister them. He also awakened Christians to be faithful followers of Christ and to support the church generously to be self- reliant. Thanks to the Holy Ghost Fathers who started this good work in Machakos.The book is good to missionaries in the world

The use of illegal drugs and misuse of therapeutic drugs has spread at an unprecedented rate and has reached to every part of the globe. No nation has been spared the devastating problem caused by drugs abuse. At the same time a broad spectrum of the world community has demonstrated intense concern over the problem, the insidious long term effects of chronic drug abuse and its impacts on the drug user, the family the community and society. Reasons for concern include a related increase in crime, drug-related automobile accidents, industrial accidents, learning disabilities and other mental health problem including interference with normal reproductive function and long term damage to the brain, heart and the lungs. The issue of people, young or old, taking drugs is not a far fetching myth. It is reality; it is a menace in our society. We cannot bury our heads in the sand and say everything is well. Never, for the drugs problem is within our learning institution, primary schools, secondary schools, universities, technical school as well as factories markets and all social gatherings. It shows how he views human nature.
