African Marigold (Tagetes erecta L)is an important commercial flower of India, belonging to family Asteraceae. It is also known as friendship flower in the United States and represents vulgar minds. Easy cultivation and wider adaptability of the crop has increased its popularity . Flowers are sold in the market as loose flower or for making garlands, offering in temples, churches, festivals, beautification and landscape. Although marigold is a very important flower, yet very little research work had been done towards the crop improvement. It has a lot of variation with respect to growth and flower characters, which varies with germplasm. Germplasm serves as valuable natural reservoir in providing needed attributes for developing successful varieties. However, the extent of improvement depends upon the amount of variability in different characters present in the crops, which is an indispensable prerequisite for successful breeding programmes. Therefore, selection accordance to high GCV and PCV is more effective for a particular traits. High heritability alongwith high genetic advance in per cent of mean provides a best guiding to formulate effective selection programme.

Flowers are traditionally used as offering in temples, churches and are used in festivals, beautification and landscape.Closer planting of marigold increased number of plants but produces poor quality flowers and wider spacing decreases number of plants and flowers which are not economical, therefore, appropriate planting geometry is needed. Pinching is an important cultural operation for plant growth and flower production in marigold, which delays flowering and enhances flower yield. Keeping in view the importance and uses of marigold and the role of spacing and pinching, the present experiment was conducted to assess the effect of spacing and pinching on vegetative growth, flowering behaviour and yield of marigold.

Conventional dosage forms often lead to wide swings in serum drug concentrations. Most of the drug content is released soon after administration, causing drug level in the body to rise rapidly, attain maximum concentration and then decline sharply. This sharp fluctuations often cause unacceptable side effects at the peaks, followed by inadequate therapy at the troughs. In the transdermal drug delivery system, drug is released at a constant rate and provides plasma concentration that remains constant over an extended period of time. In the present work, chitosan film has been used as rate controlling membrane for the transdermal drug delivery of an antiemetic drug, Ondansetron HCl. This book throws light on the preparation and evaluation of chitosan membrane as well as provides a new method for the preparation of chitosan gel.This book also, provides the way of fabrication and evaluation of transdermal patches utilising chitosan films which shows promising potential for use in the transdermal delivery of Ondansetron HCl.

Geneticists and anthropologists have attempted to elucidate the nature of India’s rich diversity for decades. In this book, a study was carried out on the two populations, Kshatriya and Chamars of Uttar Pradesh, India to obtain their and inter and intra population variation in the genome using mitochondrial and Y chromosome markers. Mitochondria and Y chromosome are inherited through mother and father, respectively, have been used extensively in the study of modern human origins and other phylogenetic studies. In the zygote, genetic contribution of sperm differs from that of egg in two complementary ways: it fails to contribute mitochondria – these are, therefore, maternally inherited; and in half of fertilizations it alone contributes a Y chromosome. Being haploid neither of these segments of DNA recombines at meiosis, and so whatever the changes accumulated in the past can be traced back to mutational events occurred in the history of their respective DNAs. Thus they act as a repository of changes occurred in their past.

The Health care institutions or hospitals, which are responsible for care of morbid population, are emitting voluminous quantity of rubbish, garbage and Bio Medical Waste matter each day from wards, operation theatre and outpatient areas. Proper management of hospital waste is essential to maintain hygienic, aesthetics, cleanliness and control of environmental pollution. The greatest risk of Biomedical waste is from infectious and sharp components of the waste, because health care workers, and people associated with handling waste are often getting needle prick injuries and can contract HIV/AIDS, hepatitis B and C.

The main objective of this book "Design and Analysis of Shorted Gap-Coupled Patch Antenna" is to investigate the gap-coupling technique of bandwidth enhancement. The size of the antenna has been reduced by using the shorting pins and slot loading which results in shifting of resonance from higher to lower frequency. The patch antenna investigated in this book is capable of operating in the L-Band i.e. 1.5-2GHz. It has several applications. The antenna investigated here can be used in array to increase the bandwidth further.

Rivers are the most important freshwater resource playing an important role in human development. In northern India, the 900-km-long Gomati River (the Ganga River tributary) acts as a lifeline for nearly 50 million people heavily dependent on it for their localized sources of food and water supply in the Ganga Plain. The assessment of chemical water quality of the Gomati River System mainly based on dissolved concentrations of major (Ca, Mg, P, K, Si and Na) and trace (Al, As, Ba, Cr, Cu, Fe, Pb, Mn, Hg, Ni, Rb, Sr and Zn) elements is done in this study. Main emphasis is given on the interpretation of resulting data enveloping with geogenic variations and anthropogenic influences. Based on World Health Organisation permissible limits and Swedish bottled water data, the present study concludes that the Gomati River water is chemically of good quality, except for Hg. Discussions provide an environmental understanding of alluvial rivers and also give equally important practical advice on management of the Ganga River. This book has been an invaluable case study for students of earth sciences, environmental sciences and water resource management.
