Als dann vier Jahre später der Roman tatsächlich erscheinen konnte, aufgeteilt in drei Einzelbände und zunächst Band eins, bat der Verleger auf Wunsch der Leser, dem letzten Band einen Appendix beizugeben, der auf alle Detailfragen zu Mittelerde, den Sprachen und Völkern eingehen, der eine Zeittafel, Stammbäume und Informationen zu den Hobbits enthalten sollte. Tolkien stimmte zu, schien es aber bald zu bereuen, denn er hatte den Arbeitsaufwand unterschätzt.
Tolkien schrieb an seinen Verleger, der ihn zur Abgabe drängte:
'Ich wollte jetzt, ich hätte die Anhänge nie versprochen!.

With the ongoing development of algorithmic composition programs and communities of practice expanding, algorithmic music faces a turning point.
